Oceanic + Greetje Bijma
Not everyone grows up with the sea in his backyard. Sliding through the salty waters next to his parents’ residence in Zeeland, the Rotterdam based Oceanic found what he’d like the most: trancey percussion over floating ungraspable rhythms.
By holding a monthly residency at Amsterdam club De School, the young Dutch artist developed a knack for tracing lines between unpredictable genres whilst never taking his eye off the dance floor; making him one of the most exciting DJ talents of The Netherlands. Several thrilling productions settled on his brother’s label Nous’klaer Audio, remixes on Versatile and Yeyeh. And a little bird told us there are many more to come…
His latest project entails a tripping ambient live set, which debuted at the World Minimal Music Festival at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam. In 2017, he was also part of ArcHertz residency in Assisi, Italy, to create a site-specific sound piece for a large crater; Mortaro Grande.
For his special concert at TodaysArt 2019, he will play a live set together with jazz improv singer Greetje Bijma. Bijma wraps her shouts and thrusts around free improvisations, building up an impressive portfolio over the years including original, involved compositions together with artists from all backgrounds. Oceanic and Bijma recently did studio sessions together, the outcome of which will be released on yeyeh later this year.
