Linn da Quebrada
Linn da Quebrada will certainly cause a stir at this year’s edition of TodaysArt. The captivating Brazilian rapper, activist and multimedia artist uses music as a weapon to challenge the paradigms of sex, gender and the body.
Denouncing the machista values of her home culture, she blends Brazilian funk with samba and trap. Her audiovisual epic Pajubá is the Brazilian answer to Beyoncé’s Lemonade, and a series of stunning videos performed for fellow queer femmes in São Paulo and beyond. Providing an exhilarating insight into the Brazilian underground scene, she aims at the deep roots of heteropatriarchy and makes it crumble to the rhythm of her dancing heels.
At TodaysArt, she will be accompanied by DJ Pininga, who will play a 15-minute set before and after her show.
Da Quebrada is also known in the international art scene for her appearance in Tranny Fag, a documentary that came out last year. It is a portrait of her recording, performing and navigating through Brazil’s queer and music scene, giving an interesting and intimate insight into her personal life.
