Once an outsider in her current home city Kampala, Somalia-born Hibo Elmi soon found her way to the local party scene. Under her alias Hibotep she is now conquering the world as a living example of the ever-growing diversity of the arts and culture scene of the Ugandese capital.
The DJ, filmmaker, fashion designer, installation artist, rapper and producer describes herself as a cultural nomad who breaks rules as they come. This philosophy extends to her DJ sets where, trap, hip-hop, house and genres such as Kenya’s Taraab or Morocco’s Gnawa, collide to create a vibrant and surprising contemporary collage.
Expect an exploration of the intersections of love and fear, terror, beauty and the void, and all of this with a casual backdrop of Somali folklore.
