Deadbeat is the alias of musician, sound artist and music technology educator Scott Monteith. The adopted Montrealer has been releasing his own special blend of minimal electronics since 2000, crafting quirky, not-quite-dancefloor techno and rumbling digital dub.
Deadbeat continually strives to create music that honours the past beyond empty tribute or cultural appropriation, by infusing the digital tools of the present with a little of the magic known as human imperfection. Hindered only by the occasional buffer underrun or synapse misfiring, he continues to search for his own unique voice between the ones and zeros.
Having drawn performance invitations from the most respected clubs and festivals the world over, audiences are as likely to be treated to great swathes of noise and ambience as they are impossibly heavy dub reggae reconfigurations, pummeling warehouse techno, or kaleidoscopic house grooves.
