Italian modular synth composer Caterina Barbieri cannot be overlooked. Crushing the linearity of time, the artist draws her audience into an extended, hypnotic wave that fractures one’s consciousness and exposes layers of perception never used before. After an amazing closing concert at TodaysArt 2018, the artist will return for a brand new live AV-show in collaboration with Ruben Spini.
In her work, Barbieri mostly focuses on minimalism, patterns and repetition, using sequencers to create immersive geometries in time and space. She approaches the practice of music as a cognitive feedback between humans and technology, exploring topics such as machine intelligence and object-oriented perception. She applies her eye for detail in the most literal sense, shaping her compositions mathematically on an almost microscopic level. The final result: compelling soundscapes and machine music with a heart and soul, that is most certain to intrigue any audience.
Her full-length debut album Patterns of Consciousness (Important Records, 2017) has received critical acclaim and been named in several ‘Best of 2017’ music round-ups. 2019 has seen her release the well-received LP “Ecstatic Computation” on Editions Mego.
