Bamba Pana & Makaveli
Bamba Pana en Makaveli bring you their own take on Singeli fire from the underground of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. With a speed of 180 bpm or more, there is no doubt their rowdy rhythms and raps will get the dancefloor shaking.
The singeli genre has now reached the mainstream in East Africa, but productions coming out of the underground studios still have a rougher style, mostly featuring MCs rather than singers and also incorporating homemade samples.
Makaveli and Bamba Pana create this kind of underground singeli. Like several of the other artists on “Sounds of Sisso”, the duo produces a more uncompromising, glitchy sound which can be reminiscent of different kinds of noise and experimental music, but which never leaves the dance floor all the same.
Rocketing forth at a blistering speed, their songs combine defiant, satirical lyrics about everything from police corruption to dating while broke with a frenetic mix of Zanzibari taraab, South African house, noise, gabber and happy hardcore.
This set is presented in collaboration with Nyege Nyege festival.
