Lotic & Roderick George – Embryogenesis

An exciting collaboration coming to TodaysArt this year is ‘Embryogenesis’ by DJ and producer Lotic and ballet dancer and choreographer Roderick George. The project explores the boundaries between ‘high’ and ‘popular’ culture to subsequently break and blur them.
In ‘Embryogenesis’, the focus lies on the restrictions of assigning certain dance genres to specific racial groups or cultures. This intersection between culture and dance makes classical and modern dance styles entwine, exchanging bits and pieces in a beautiful collision.
Both artists are originally from Houston, Texas but are based in Berlin. Lotic, a provocative DJ whose background includes experimental music as well as popular rap and R&B, makes no secret of the fact that his racial and sexual identity lies at the heart of his work. He is a frequent collaborator with Roderick George, with whom he has made several collaborative pieces.
