Labelle
Presented with Electropicales
From his Saint Denis apartment, and with the help of his machines, Labelle has laid the foundations of an electronic kind of the traditional maloya music. It is modern, yet deeply rooted in its home territory: La Réunion.
In his work, you will find the maloya stamp. This is Reunionese traditional music, both in the rhythms and the instruments used, like the harp-like valiha from Madagascar. The hypnotic sounds evoke distant dimensions and resonate like shamanic incantations.
The sound of the Creole Reunionese language plays a key role on Labelle’s latest album, “univers-île.” On his recent EP “Post-Maloya”, Labelle released a collection of fascinating introspective trance music. It is a vivid dream-like journey through which traces a path of exploration. The EP explores how new musical processes mix with the traditional maloya instrumentation.
On stage, Labelle lives in its music and invites his audience into a meditative depth.
This performance is presented in collaboration with Electropicales.
