Kiefer

The work of the Californian pianist, music producer and beat maker Kiefer is characterized by original and skilfull jazz piano pieces and electronic beats that are often free from sampled melodies or drum breaks.

The Stones Throw Records-artist started playing the piano as a young child and producing beats at around the age of twelve. He developed his obsession with jazz when he was a teenager. This fascination caused the young Kiefer Shackelford to be more intrigued with the ins and outs of John Coltrane’s Giant Steps than he was with the rise of Lil Wayne and Kanye West.

Kiefer is a frequent collaborator with others: he is a constant in Mndsgn’s live trio, shared the stage with Moses Sumney and Terrance Martin and lent production talents to the likes of Kaytranada and rapper Anderson Paak.
