Bjarni Gunnarsson

Bjarni Gunnarsson is an Icelandic composer and sound artist who works with process-based ideas, sounds focusing on internal activity and motion and compositions that bring behaviours, actions, fluid sound structures, fuzzy materials or forms onto the foreground.

Gunnarsson has released numerous LPs, EPs, compilation tracks and reworks on labels such as Vertical Form, Thule, Uni:form, Spezial Material, Trachanik, Lamadameaveclechien, Shipwrec and 3LEAVES. He has completed a Master’s degree at the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where is currently a faculty member. He mainly works  with algorithmic composition, generative environments and live electronics.

Furthermore, he is working on new material with his long-lasting electronic music duo Einóma, and MGBG, a duo of voice and electronics he forms with singer Marie Guilleray. Gunnarsson’s work represents his dense palette of sounds, derived from voice, field recordings, original designed sounds and acoustic instruments.

This performance is presented in collaboration with Azimuth, an organization for the production and performance of electroacoustic music in the Netherlands.
