Arvid & Marie – The Last Job on Earth

‘The Last Job On Earth’ is a performative installation experimenting with how machines and humans can collaborate in terms of labour. The audience is the witness of a speculative job: humans being employed by a conversational program as an emotional machine and visual interface.
As a participant, you can communicate with the program with a keyboard. Computer-generated answers are then spoken aloud by the human interpreter.
In this way, each entity can be used to their full potential: the artificial brain for its perfect recollection of infinite data and computing power; and the human for its natural ability to communicate with other humans and transfer emotions. Mistakes and misinterpretations happen, but at the same time, the man and machine come closer and closer together.
Both recently graduated from art and design studies in the Netherlands, Arvid Jense (NL, MSc at TU/e) and Marie Caye (FR, BA Design Academy Eindhoven) collaborate on their shared passion for art and technology. Together they combine technological expertise with critical thinking.
