Maurice Mikkers – Imaginarium of Tears

"I Photograph Tears To Show That Each Tear Is Unique And Beautiful."

Maurice Mikkers – Imaginarium of Tears

The project ‘Imaginarium of Tears’ of Maurice Mikkers is a series of micrographs that shows the hidden beauty behind a tear. Tears are often seen as a weakness and therefore not always accepted in our daily life. However, a tear can also be a beautiful thing. Scientifically tears are divided into three different types based on their origin: basal tears, reflex tears or emotional tears. We are all familiar with these tears, but how do they look on a microscopical level? According to scientists every tear has a different viscosity and composition. All tears contain a variety of biological substances including oils, antibodies and enzymes suspended in salt water.

Mikkers’ project is presented at TodaysArt with the opportunity to book an experience where your tears will be imagined in a 1 hour session. Tears will be evoked and dispensed onto a microscopic slide. After the tears are crystallised Mikkers will photograph them. Besides ‘Imaginarium of Tears’, three of Mikkers’ other photo series are exhibited in the space.

Please make your reservations for the sessions via http://mauricemikkers.nl/booking.
