Moon Wheel is the independent project of Swedish artist and self-taught musician, Olle Holmberg.

Following seven years in Melbourne as a member of experimental electronic group Pissypaw, Holmberg moved to Berlin, where his first production under the Moon Wheel moniker – a 13-minute drone work on a split cassette with post-punk outfit Ill Winds - was released on Noisekölln Tapes in 2012. Holmberg’s cerebral, shape-shifting compositions are inspired by “nature, history and wandering”, and synthesize electronic and organic sounds. As each piece is largely improvisational, his live performances do not recreate his repertoire, but rather experiment with creation as a process of discovery. His self-titled solo album debuted on L.A. label Not Not Fun in March. In 2011 he performed at the live and live-streamed event Hyphae, a TodaysArt Lab project.

Moon Wheel is performing at TodaysArt as part of the Berlin Current program presented by CTM Festival. Berlin’s reputation as a world music capital is undisputed. Creative minds from around the world have long flocked to the city in search of advantageous conditions for their work, radically expanding Berlin’s musical diversity. But what truly adventurous sounds and musics are currently arising from the city’s maelstrom of simultaneously sounding musical styles and cultures? With Berlin Current, CTM Festival puts an ear to the scene and presents new, future-oriented musical ideas from Berlin. Berlin Current is supported by the Musicboard Berlin.
