"Don’t you just hate it when art does that? Makes things legit.."

Regis

Ever since Karl O’Connor started his career in the early nineties with Function as Sandwell District and with Surgeon as British Murder Boys, he has been prone to do things his way. The Downwards label, founded in 1993 together with fellow techno aficionado Peter Sutton, never strayed from its goal to release uncompromisingly interesting music – be it techno, shoegaze or electronica. Manbait, his first full length LP in over a decade due for release on Blackest Ever Black on September 18th, follows that tradition closely. Instead of putting together an album of ten original productions, the Birmingham born producer has opted for another approach. It’s a very clever compilation of reworks – a few remixes of his own tracks as well as of a host of tracks going back as far as to the eighties. Regis will provide the closing set on the Saturday night program on The Pier.
