Ali Demirel + Biosphere – The Pier

"When I hear something, I see something."

Ali Demirel + Biosphere – The Pier

Ali Demirel, based in Berlin since 2008, studied nuclear engineering at Hacettepe University, and architecture at Middle East Technical University (METU). After receiving his degree in architecture, he worked and lectured at GISAM (Audio-Visual Research Center) of METU. Demirel started making experimental videos in 1993, focusing on minimal images and structural compositions with a conceptual base. Following his collaboration with Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman) on music videos, he decided to design and perform live shows. Reflecting his background in physics and architecture, he has established a unique visual style in minimal electronic music. Minus CONTAKT shows in 2008 and Plastikman live shows in 2010 have been a landmark in audio-visual live performance. For TodaysArt he created a video with footage he took of the Pier just before the renovation started, with an exclusive soundtrack by Biosphere. Fascinated by the way nature took over what humans failed to do, Demirel tried to capture the beauty of the devastating conditions.
