Bright Collisions: 25 + 26 September, The Pier

Bright Collisions 2015 brings a sea of knowledge to the TodaysArt.NL Festival on the 25th and the 26th of September on The Pier. The symposium is focused on creative explorations on the border of natural elements, technology and humanity.

In the course of the Bright Collisions Symposium, get ready to:

– Re-read the history of ZERO and address the topicality of its legacy today in ‘ZEROnow: a symposium on the topicality of ZERO’ is a collaboration between TodaysArt, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the ZERO Foundation and Stedelijk Museum Schiedam. This is a two-day symposium in Amsterdam (24 September) and The Hague (25 September).

– Focus on the rapidly increasing amount of applications of processing bodily feedback, virtual and augmented reality devices and applications and imaging technologies in the ‘Sensory Experience and Enhanced Realities’ session (25 September).

– Critically reflect on and explore emergent developments and blurring boundaries between intimacy, privacy and technology together with Baltan Laboratories and its partners in the ‘Hack the body’ expert meeting (25 September). The subject focuses on how artistic ideas and innovative projects explore the relationship between the human body and technology.

– Get familiar with the ‘SHAPE‘ platform for innovative music and audiovisual art from Europe, which co-hosts workshops and talk sessions. Jonathan Reus and Leslie Garcia and Paloma Lopez will host workshops for musicians and interested audience on 25 and 26 September. As a part of the 4DSOUND: Circadian program and related to the SHAPE program, there will be two artist panel and talk sessions. In the artist panel on Friday 25 September John Connell, Robert Jan Liethoff, Kazuya Nagaya and others discuss concepts and practices that investigate cosmic forces on our consciousness, like the effect of frequencies on our mental and physical state and the relationship between intuition, dreams and space. On Saturday 26 September Marco Donnarumma, Michelle Lewis-King, Lisa Park and others discuss different approaches, both old and new, how to musically read the body.

– Dive into the wonders of human presence beyond Earth in the ‘Space Science in the Arts‘ session (26 September). Come and learn about the Global Moon Village, Art-Science in the Space age, with a possibility to actively take part in the hands-on workshops related to human factors and lunar base design.

– Reflect on the geographical, environmental and symbolical perspectives of the deep, ungraspable volume of the sea in ‘Thinking with the Sea‘ session (26 September). The main questions raised in the session are “How do we think from the sea and with the sea?”, “How does this help us engage differently with spaces around us?” and “Can human existence be defined by a natural phenomena?”.

– Map the North sea in the Failed Architecture workshop (26 September), demistifying this foggy part of the world and looking for answers on who owns and controls the North Sea? What flows, borders, connections and obstacles can there be found? Who and what inhabits the North Sea? What plans have been made for its future?
