Michiel van Iersel (1978) is an urbanist and curator.

Michiel van Iersel started his career working for several visual arts organizations (Museum of Modern Art, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and Art Rotterdam) and cultural consulting firm LAgroup, before co-founding Non-fiction in 2008. He studied Business and Cultural Studies at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and Metropolitan Studies at the Humboldt-Universität Berlin.

In addition Michiel co-founded De Verdieping, a temporary project space for experimental culture in an abandoned printing plant, and the international research project Failed Architecture, focusing on failed buildings and areas around the world. Currently he is guest lecturer at a.o. the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Academy of Architecture, both in Amsterdam. He is an active member of several (advisory) boards, amongst which Stad-Forum and the Advisory Board of the Nieuwe Kerk Foundation in Amsterdam.
