Tim Hecker is one of the most acclaimed sound artists in the contemporary music scene. Born in Vancouver, currently living in Montréal, Hecker has been exploring the intersection of noise, dissonance and melody for more than a decade.
Taking heavily processed sounds of pianos, synthesisers, woodwind instruments and, on recent recordings, church organs, Hecker creates dense soundscapes. His previous album, ‘Ravedeath, 1972’ was one of 2011′s best received conceptual sound art releases. His work has been described as ‘foreboding, abstract pieces in which static and sub-bass rumbles open up around slow moving notes and chords, like fissures in the earth waiting to swallow them whole’ by the New York Times. At TodaysArt 2014, Tim Hecker will perform ‘Virgins’, the follow-up to his ‘Ravedeath, 1972’ album.
