Ben Frost is widely recognized for fusing intensely structured sound art with militant post-classical electronic music, shape-shifting physical power with immersive melody, concentrated minimalism with fierce, rupturing dark metal.
He is involved in various collaborations and alliances which underline Frost’s continuing fascination with finding ways of combining and coalescing the roles and procedures of various artistic disciplines in one place.
A performance by Frost is often felt as much as heard: deep basses, live guitars and haunting electronic sounds meld together into memorable performances; Frost does not leave any part of the tonal spectrum behind. This will be Frost’s third appearance at TodaysArt, following up his astonishing performance at TodaysArt 2008 and his collaboration with Daníel Bjarnason, ‘Music for Solaris’, in 2012, a re-scoring of the Tarkovsky classic for Sinfonietta Cracovia with visuals by Brian Eno and Nick Robertson.
Frost’s performance at TodaysArt 2014 will be all about ‘A U R O R A’, his latest album which managed to cause quite a stir after its release in May this year. The album has garnered many positive critical responses, including being listed on the 45 Best Albums of 2014 So Far according to Rolling Stone.
