Steina Vasulka - Urban Episodes

Urban Episodes (1980)
Machine Vision is born when machines control spinning platforms, mirrors, prismas and cameras to redefine the ideas on space and break with the constraints of the human vision. In Urban Episodes Steina Vasulka places a rotating camera in the centre of Mineapolis. This preprogrammed divice scans the square with pan, zoom, tilt and rotation movements. The effect is an abstract interpretation of an well-known urban landscape, without the restrictions of gravity and human perception.

This film is part of a programme curated by Martijn van Boven.
