SemiConductor - Matter In Motion

Matter in Motion (2008)
The Universe is in a constant state of integration and disintergration. On a quest for insight in the material world surrounding us, SemiConductor (Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt) have restructured the city of Milan. We find their answers in reproductions from attributes that we know, and associate with the moleculair world and ICT. Slowly, in a natural way, different city images are taking shape because of the generative processes that occur.

Matter in Motion is a series of vignettes which originated as photographic panoramas taken around Milan. In each setting field recordings have been made and used to directly reconstruct the fabric of the city, introducing a temporal and spatial allusion.

Give me matter and motion and I will construct the universe” – Rene Descartes (1596-1650)

This film is part of a programme curated by Martijn van Boven.
