| United Visual Artists are a multidisciplinary arts company combining art direction, production and software engineering. They create responsive, immersive and sculptural light-based environments. UVA was founded by partners Chris Bird, Matt Clark and Ash Nehru in 2003. Their first project was the creation of the ground-breaking visual show for Massive Attack’s 100th Window world tour. Since then they have gone on to work with bands including Basement Jaxx, U.N.K.L.E. and U2 (Vertigo tour 2005). UVA have also diversified into other areas, working on music videos for Kylie Minogue, Colder, Arctic Monkeys and recently directed Battles (Tonto) with Warp | Films. In 2004 UVA created a curved LED installation for the Kabaret’s Prophecy nightclub in Soho, which won Wallpaper Magazine’s ‘Best Designed Nightclub’ award in 2005.
Their current major project is the design and installation of architectural lighting for the Santral Contemporary Art Space in Istanbul, Turkey. Tryptich, which will have its premiere at the
TodaysArt Festival, represents the next phase of UVA’s explorations in monumental sitespecific LED sculpture - three brooding presences that respond to the movements of people approaching them, creating a visceral experience of sound and light. |
