Nederlands Dans Theater II
Sleepless
At TodaysArt 2007, Nederlands Dans Theater II presents Sleepless, by choreographer Jirí Kylián. This work has been performed before at the TodaysArt Festival in the Atrium, but will now be performed in the more intimate Grote Kerk. The reason for this repeat performance is that Kylián is celebrating his sixtieth birthday by touring internationally with three of his works, including Sleepless. He chose this performance for TodaysArt because it gives the dancers the opportunity to show their newest techniques. This makes it the ideal showcase for contemporary dance.

Sleepless was created for six dancers, with
the set playing an important part. A synthetic background creates illusions and fantasies. Kylián’s composer Dirk Haubrich adapted the slow part of the adagio and rondo KV 617 in c-major by Mozart. This piece of music for, amongst other instruments, the glass harmonica, is one of Mozart’s later works. Sixteen young dancers (aged 18-23) from all four corners of the world, together form the internationally renowned Nederlands Dans Theater II. Their technique is amazing, their boundless energy is contagious. The group is one of the favourite dance acts of TodaysArt due to its revamping of dance and their youthful input.
