Juan Atkins had already established himself as a pioneer in electronic music with the group Cybotron when he created the persona of Model 500 and went on to produce a string of hits on his own Metroplex label. But not content with his success as a DJ and producer, he took Model 500 to another level by creating a band of the same name. While the group Model 500 has never toured much beyond the US, in its latest incarnation the band is set to give audiences a taste of the classics as well as a hint of things to come.
“Mad” | Mike Banks of Underground Resistance was Atkins’ first choice as bandmate and musical director. Banks shares musical direction with Milton “DJ Skurge” Baldwin of UR’s Interstellar Fugitives. Rounding out the quartet is Mark Taylor, a producer/musician whose successes in R&B, techno, hip hop, and funk made him the perfect compliment to the other three. Together as Model 500, they debuted at the 2007 DEMF Festival in Detroit and are currently working on several projects slated for the fall. |
